Market Insight: For organisations

by May 9, 2024General

In this edition of Cause Recruitment News, we provide key insights for organisations in the for-purpose sector and what they can do to attract the best candidates.

What’s the job market like now?

According to the Australian Government Recruitment Trends State snapshot (NSW) released in April 2024, it’s not surprising that there has been a 17% decline in roles advertised compared to February 2023.

Of those who participated in the survey, 61% claimed they had difficulty recruiting.

The reasons provided for this were most likely due to:

  • Lack of suitable candidates
  • Undesirable working conditions/hours
  • Lack of candidates or lack of candidates with the right technical skills

What are top candidates looking for?

Even with a slower job market, we continue to receive high-quality applications for roles advertised through Cause Recruitment. Right now, we have a network of top candidates looking for work, but organisations need to know how to attract them.

We found that organisations offering flexibility (whether that’s hybrid working or part-time) combined with opportunities to develop skills/careers in the not-for-profit sector stood out in the marketplace.

Key points to consider:

  • Flexibility and provision of hybrid working arrangements. With the ‘Great Slow Down’ underway, more people prioritise well-being, work-life balance and less pressurised roles.
  • Salary: with the rising cost of living, many people are looking to increase their salary to justify making a move.
  • Opportunities for development/upskill in an organisation making a real impact in the community.

Attracting the right candidates

Whilst in-house recruitment can yield results, it can often prove time-consuming with no guarantee that the best possible candidate will be hired, especially in niche areas in fundraising.

By doing so, an organisation is potentially missing out on a pool of passive candidates currently employed who don’t have time to review job ads and may not even apply, depending on the quality of the advert.

That’s where we come in. At Cause Recruitment, we bring in over 13 years of recruiting in the for-purpose sector with deep networks and know our market well. We take the time to really get to know our candidates and organisations, the objectives of each so we can match effectively enabling the business and individual to thrive to achieve goals.
